About this Program

Workforce Heroes is a 90-day program that employs individuals experiencing homelessness or housing instability through structured, paid work opportunities across multiple industries, with Phase I and Phase II pathways that meet participants at different levels of experience.

Workforce Heroes connects individuals to employment pathways, building workforce participation and long-term stability through hands-on experience, skill development, and community investment.

Eligibility & Expectations

Participants must:

  • Complete pre-employment screenings (drug test, background check, physical exam)

  • Attend weekly case management and life skills sessions

  • Maintain consistent attendance and positive conduct

  • Participate fully for the 90-day program duration

A Collaborative Approach

Community partners including Spartanburg County, City of Spartanburg, A Place to Call Home, Miracle Hill Ministries, ReGenesis Healthcare, and Carolina Foothills came together to build a supportive workforce program, alongside a range of local employers helping meet workforce needs across Spartanburg County.

Program Components

  • Employment: Paid work opportunities across multiple industries with uniforms and transportation provided. Phase I and Phase II pathways meet participants at different experience levels and connect them with local employers across Spartanburg County

  • Case Management: Weekly sessions focused on housing, healthcare, benefits, and goal setting.

  • Life Skills Training: Weekly classes on financial literacy, job readiness, health, and digital skills.

  • Savings Opportunities: Referrals to Individual Development Accounts (IDAs) for housing, education, or vehicle purchases.

  • Healthcare Access: Support with insurance enrollment and mental health/addiction services.

  • Transportation: Transportation support to and from work sites, with continued help accessing longer-term transit options.

  • Graduation & Beyond: Formal recognition, continued case management, and referrals to housing or employment pipelines.
