CAREERS & OPEN POSITIONS
With A Place To Call Home Spartanburg
Who We Are
A Place to Call Home (APTCH) coordinates the response to homelessness and housing instability across Spartanburg County. We work across a full continuum, from prevention through emergency response, shelter, transitional housing, workforce development, and long-term stability, partnering with the City, County, healthcare system, faith community, and nonprofit sector to make sure people experiencing housing crisis have somewhere to turn.
Our Vision
We envision a Spartanburg County where homelessness is recognized as a solvable problem, and where everyone has a safe, secure place to call home.
Our Mission
At A Place to Call Home, we provide the focus, strategy, and expertise Spartanburg County needs to address homelessness. We convene partners, amplify solutions, and utilize best practices while rallying the community to take bold, coordinated action.
What We Believe
Our work is grounded in a set of beliefs that guide how we show up every day:
- We acknowledge that homelessness is complex.
- We believe that housing is a basic human right.
- We will focus on an entire continuum of support.
- We will balance short and long-term solutions.
- We know our approach must be inclusive and collaborative.
What It's Like to Work Here
APTCH staff work directly with people in crisis, alongside partner agencies, and inside a growing organization that is still building its systems and structure. That means the work is meaningful and fast-moving. You'll have real ownership over your program area, close collaboration with a small, mission-driven team, and the chance to help shape an organization in its early years.
Benefits & Time Off
We are employees of the City of Spartanburg, which means our team has access to the stability, benefits, and retirement structure of local government while doing the kind of direct, relationship-driven work that usually lives in the nonprofit sector.

- Life insurance at 1x annual salary plus $3,000, doubled for accidental death, with optional dependent and voluntary coverage

- Long-term disability, covering 62.5% of basic monthly earnings (up to $800/month) after a 90-day elimination period

Core Competencies We Look For
Regardless of role, we look for people who bring:
- Relational skill — the ability to build trust quickly with a diverse range of people and stakeholders, including those who may be in crisis, distrustful of systems, or hard to reach
- Sound judgment under pressure — comfort making good decisions in ambiguous, high-stakes, or fast-changing situations
- Collaboration across systems — willingness to work alongside other agencies, City departments, and community partners rather than in isolation
- Reliability and follow-through — our clients and partners depend on us to do what we say we'll do
- Adaptability — comfort with a growing organization where processes are still being built
- A learning orientation — humility to ask questions and grow into a complex, evolving field
